Year 1 & 2

This term we start with a focus on ‘Castles’. On Friday the 4th of May we are going to visit Skipton Castle. We will find out all about the different parts of the castle, who lived there and how some of it is really old! We have found a really fun book to start this topic all about George and his dragon. We will use this to inspire our writing, art and D.T.

Our science will focus on plants and living things.

Class Letters

Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Please bring your NAMED PE kit including a tracksuit or jumper and joggers as well as shorts and t-shirt on both these days.

We have given every child a green homework book to write in any reading that your child does at home or at school. All children have been given a reading book, which they are free to change themselves when they have read it. They should be reading at home at least 4 times a week. Children’s reading will be assessed regularly and they will change colours accordingly.

In maths we begin the year with a couple of topics, division and fractions and then we continue to learn about and explore shapes. We will end the term returning to calculations, particularly thinking about addition and subtraction.

The Maths Passports are proving to be really popular with the children and a really good way to engage them in learning these key skills.

Please continue to encourage your child to do their homework as it supports and consolidates the learning we are doing in the classroom.  It is important that it is completed each week.

Tuck shop

Tuck shop will be on a Tuesday. (20p for a drink and 20p for a homemade biscuit).

Every Day

Please ensure that your child has a named water bottle in school each day.  We do not have a water fountain in our classroom and the children are often thirsty after breaktimes and PE lessons.  Thank you for your co-operation with this.

Start and End of the Day

The EYFS door will be opened at quarter to 9. this door will be locked at 9am, if you arrive after this time, please enter through the main school entrance. Key Stage 1 finish at 3:20pm.

Spring 2018

As part of our topic about Africa we have designed and made our own warrior masks.

Autumn 2017

Biscuit Factory

In Maths Year 1 and 2 set up a biscuit factory to help us to count in steps or 2,3 and 4. The children had to put a chocolate button on every second biscuit, a dolly mixture on every third and a milk bottle on every fourth. This lead to a very interesting discussion about multiples and why some biscuits ended up with no sweets on.
