Music

Ripon Cathedral ConcertRipon Cathedral ConcertIn Key Stage 2 all children learn a wind instrument during their music curriculum time and are taught by a specialist teacher. The school allows children to spend time trying different instruments before selecting the one they feel most comfortable with. The cost of the hire of instruments is covered by the school.

This initiative is now so successful that St Cuthbert’s School was asked to be part of the North Yorkshire Ofsted inspection for music which was graded ‘Outstanding’ and the school is now the only ‘Flagship’ school for music in North Yorkshire.

We are a North Yorkshire Flagship School for Music

All children in Y3, Y4, Y5 and Y6 learn a wind instrument. Music is taught by a specialist teacher and band practice is held weekly.  Both the school and the local community are very proud of our band which takes part in the charity concerts at the Harrogate Royal Hall.  The band also go busking to raise money for charity.

Our children love making music together and tell us that performing is scary but the best fun!

Music Groups

St Cuthbert's school has two singing groups. The choir meet on a lunchtime and the ‘Sing’ group meet after school to practice a wide range of music.  The singing groups takes part in the Christmas service, Harvest, Easter and Leavers service.  The choir play an active part in the community opening the church Christmas fair.

Instrumental tuition

A wide range of musical tuition is available through North Yorkshire County Council Music Centre.  Children also have the opportunity to hire instruments before purchasing their own should they wish to.  Lessons can be taken individually or in groups.
