Early Years

Our Topic for this half term is ‘Books and Stories’.  We shall be looking at a range of different genres including fables, poems, fairy tales, superhero comics, traditional tales and non-fiction books.  For ‘Show and Tell’ this term it would be great if you could prepare your child to talk about their favourite book.

Early Years Reading

We teach reading using synthetic phonics.  A systematic daily phonic session introduces pupils to letters and sounds and pupils learn to blend and segment words.

Reading books are then given. Initially these are phonically decodable which means pupils experience a high level of success with their initial reading books.

The main schemes used are the new Oxford Reading Tree phonic books -Songbirds and Floppy's Phonics.  These are supplemented with books from other schemes to provide breadth and variety.

Reminders

P.E. – P.E. is on a Tuesday afternoon, followed by tuck shop (20p for a drink and 20p for a biscuit).  We also have P.E. on a Friday morning which may be dance or using the bikes/scooters.  Please ensure your child has P.E. kit (white T-shirt with school logo, navy or black shorts and trainers – not pumps) in school.  As with all uniform, these must be clearly named.

School Library – Nursery and Reception children will visit the library on Wednesdays.  Should your child wish to change their library book, please make sure it gets returned to school.

Sharing Assembly
Sharing assemblies are on Fridays at 2.45pm in the school hall and provide
an opportunity to share the highlights from the week.  Children are proud of what they have achieved and we look forward to seeing you there.
